Survey for Métis Business Owners & People Leaders

Weaving Métis Values into the Workplace

A grassroots gathering of stories on Métis leadership and business.

tân’si / Taanishi / Alo / Boon zhoor / Bonjour / Welcome.

I am sharing this invitation with gratitude, acknowledging the strength and wisdom of the Métis business community. I am inviting you to participate in a grassroots project designed to document how we live Métis values in our workplaces.

Who I Am My name is Alicia Hibbert. I am Red River Métis, a citizen of the Métis Nation of Alberta, and an experienced researcher based in kwikwetlem territory (Port Coquitlam, BC).

The Project This initiative fills a critical gap in Métis-specific examples of how we embed our values into business and leadership. By taking a distinctions-based approach, my hope is to highlight the unique ways Métis people are shifting systems and managing differently. Jump to FAQs.

Your Participation I honour your autonomy and time. Because this is the first survey of its kind, it is comprehensive.

  • Openness: Even if you feel you don’t have specific “Métis business values,” your story matters. The questions are designed to help you reflect on how you naturally show up.
  • Privacy: Your participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time. You will not be asked to share your name/contact information on the survey. You will be redirected to a second form to provide your name and email for the prize draw. These forms are not connected. Your data will be stored on a secure business server owned by Edified Projects Inc., and will not be accessible to anyone outside of this project.

Reciprocity In the spirit of reciprocity, this knowledge will be returned to the community:

A free, public report and tools for Human Resources team members will be available on this project webpage on edifiedprojects.com.

To honour your time, you can enter a draw for prizes from Métis-owned businesses.

Maarsii for sharing your knowledge.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We are warmly inviting Métis people who work in the business community as business owners or people leaders to participate. Whether you are an entrepreneur, a senior leader in a larger organization, a consultant, or a supervisor, your unique perspective is valuable. If you are Métis and have experiences sharing your values in a workplace setting—or even if you are just exploring what that means to you—this survey is designed to hear your story.
Right now, there isn’t much information available about how Métis values show up in the business world. Through what you share in this survey, we hope to learn how Métis professionals embed their unique worldview into areas like decision-making, leadership styles, recruitment, and procurement. This knowledge will help us bridge a gap and create better resources, training materials, and real-world case studies to support our community and encourage organizations to do better. It is important we return knowledge back to the community, so the final report and the HR Toolkit created from this data will be free and publicly available to you, ensuring that your stories help lift up the whole community.
We are moving quickly to gather this important information! The survey is open for data collection throughout December 2025 and January 2026. Once the survey closes, I will analyze all the combined stories and data during February 2026. The goal is to share the final summary report publicly on this website by the end of March 2026.
Respecting we are otipimisiwak (we lead ourselves), you can:
1. Take the online survey
2. Book an interview via email
3. Email a video or audio file of you answering the questions
This project is a grassroots initiative born out of a real need to fill a significant "knowledge gap." As a consultant and educator, I realized we lack specific examples of how Métis values truly influence business and leadership practices. Instead of relying on general approaches, this research takes a distinctions-based approach to highlight, celebrate, and document the unique ways Métis people are already shifting systems and doing business differently.
Your participation is entirely voluntary, and protecting your privacy is my top priority. The online survey is anonymous; your name will not be associated with your responses, and no identifying details will be shared in the final public report. I act as the sole steward of this information, ensuring it is handled with the respect and confidentiality required by Indigenous research principles. If you choose an alternative option like a 1:1 interview or submitting an audio/video recording, please know that recordings are used only for data collection and will not be distributed; all identifiable information is removed during transcription to ensure your anonymity is protected. Raw data (audio/video files and contact form for the draw - anything containing names and images) will be deleted within 6 months of collection. Anonymized data (de-identified transcripts and survey responses) will be stewarded for 7 years. This allows us to continue using these insights to develop training materials and advocate for Métis values in the workplace without compromising your identity.

Reciprocity & Gratitude

In Indigenous research, we do not take without giving back. To thank you for sharing your wisdom, I offer the following in the spirit of reciprocity.

🎁 Prize Draw o honour your time and support the Métis business ecosystem, we are offering 5 chances to win a $50 gift card to Mother Earth Essentials. Founded by Carrie Armstrong, this Métis woman-owned company creates incredible bath and beauty products rooted in traditional Indigenous plants and teachings.

🎧 Métis Music for Reflection I have curated YouTube links featuring beautiful music by Métis artists. I invite you to listen to it while you work, reflect, or simply take a moment for yourself.

Weaving Our Connections

This process is designed to centre relationships, authenticity, and community. We honour your autonomy and want to emphasize that your participation is entirely voluntary—you are free to join or withdraw at any time.

I’d love to hear from you. If you have feedback on this process, or if you want to share a resource to be added to our future toolkit, the door is always open.
