I appreciated how thoughtfully the Edified Projects team approached the design of our series of sessions together. From sharing a framework that helped us scaffold bringing our personal and authentic selves into our land acknowledgements, to providing a variety of different types of supports and resources, to facilitating a safe virtual sharing circle. Hearing each of my colleagues’ personal land acknowledgements was a deeply meaningful experience and something that I know I will remember and be impacted by for a long time.

When I think of land acknowledgments it was always rooted in history, recognizing that we would not have a home were it not for the First peoples, the original stewards of this land. This workshop pushed me further to analyze my role as a settler on this land. I think I realized that land acknowledgements should not be stagnant, and should evolve as our understanding of issues deepens and hopefully as our efforts towards reconciliation become clearer.

I thought Edified Projects did a great job facilitating this learning journey — it was engaging, I learned a lot, and I think I and others felt very well supported to achieve our goal of developing our own Land Acknowledgment.

I soon began sending Alicia all my fact-checking and copyediting, too. Her work (and that of her team) is always professional, contemporary and on deadline. Alicia took it upon herself to maintain a style guide for our account so she can keep track of all the little quirks of our website, including display copy, neighbourhood nicknames, hyperlink style and so forth. She is an exceptional copyeditor with a keen eye for detail, editorial nuance and tone. Her work is always in on time or earlier than assigned. She makes me look good to my client, and for that I am so very grateful!

The land acknowledgement workshop taught me so much about myself my own kinship how I show up in the world to my community and myself. It connected me to my ancestors myself and my future. I also took away the skills to bring Land acknowledgments into personal and professional settings in a way that’s appropriate and authentic. I loved being in a group setting to learn and having different styles of acknowledgments that were “beyond the script” was so impactful and important to my learning. I didn’t expect the experience to be so emotional for me and I’m thankful that it was and that the facilitators and participants provided a safe space for vulnerability and truth.
